Chibishous are a project I’ve been working on for a while now. These particular sprites do not appear in any game– they were custom-designed by Geek Mythology Crafts and are only available from us at conventions, at our website, www.geekmythologycrafts.com and at our Etsy Store. Aside from that, we will be debuting these bead sprites [...]

Super Mario Bros. Piranha Plant Bead Sprite for Sale on Etsy

Super Mario Bros. Piranha Plant Bead Sprite for Sale on Etsy

For sale at our Etsy Shop is a Piranha Plant Bead Sprite from Super Mario Bros. 3, complete with green “pipe”. This hungry guy is made from Perler beads and a painted terracotta pot. These will be available at our future convention art tables as well as through Etsy. They will be $15 at conventions, and you can save a buck by purchasing one online for $14. Check them out here!

Don’t have a green thumb? Not to worry! Take home one of these semi-harmless potted Piranha plants from Super Mario Bros! They are constructed with Perler Beads and have the same hungry-looking design on both sides. They come in their very own green “pipe” made from a terra cotta pot coated in acrylic paint. They are embedded in brown shredded paper and are removable from their pot, so you can “plant” them elsewhere if you like. When you want to put the Piranha back in its pot, simply remove the shredded paper, stick ‘im back in, and work the paper around the stick at the bottom of the sprite. Pack him in tightly and he’s ready to stand on his own roots again! These bead Piranhas don’t require any maintenance or water! Best of all- they don’t bite!

Trunks & Goten Bead Sprite WIP

Posted By Vilsy on October 17th, 2009

http://www.geekmythologycrafts.com/blog/?p=346

One of my favorite things about Dragonball Z- young Trunks and Goten. So when I saw this sprite of them fighting to the death (OK, not exactly), I knew that this image would become my bead spriting magnum opus. Unfortunately, at the time I hadn’t enough physical space to work on such a large sprite, nor did I have enough pegboards to lay it down on.

But now I finally do! So here is a work-in-progress shot of this project. Trunks is ALMOST finished. It’s taken a lot of color customizing to be able to work with this, since I couldn’t find a suitable color by Perler to make Trunks’ gi. And I’ll be darned if I could find the right purple combination for his hair. But being “crafty” with this, I think it will turn out great.

Ryu Bead Sprite
Ryu Bead Sprite

Probably our biggest sprite so far (I haven’t exactly taken the time to measure him), here is Ryu from Street Fighter. JJ’s been playing SF4 a whole lot, so I suppose you could call this a “tribute”? In any case, he’s a pretty cool bead sprite!

Take a stand, Ness!

Ness and stand

Ness and stand separate Ness and stand 3/4 view

Simple but effective- I have made a little stand for my bead sprites. I’ve made quite a few now and they’re all laying flat on their faces… I thought it would be cool to have them stand upright. I puzzled over it briefly and came up with a very rudimentary device, but hey, it works great! I was originally going to put it on a large, circular base but it stands up perfectly on just the small rectangular one, and does not visually take away from the sprite on display. I may adjust the dimensions of the stand slightly in the future, but I’m pretty happy with the result for a first shot. :)

Ch-Ch-Ch-Chip & Dale

Chip & Dale, originally uploaded by aerith_reborn.

I love these cute little guys, and Chip n’ Dale’s Rescue Rangers was one of my all time favorite NES games. I modified the sprite colors slightly for these two since I did not have that crazy red color they used for their fur, and I used light brown instead. Also Dale’s shirt is now red instead of the same color as his fur. Artistic license I say! *cough*

In the Beginning…

Sprites – Batch 1, originally uploaded by geek_mythology.

There was a Perler Bead spriting newb. Her name was Geek-Mythology, sometimes Vilsy, always perplexed and befuddled.

Actually it’s not so bad. I have found the joys of creating video game sprites from Perler fuse beads, and am having a jolly good time so far. I’ve been at it for about a week and I’m pretty hooked. It has been a nice break from my normal digital drawing.

Here are my first attempts at the craft. Gau from Final Fantasy VI looking as though he’s found a fire hydrant was my first. Weird choice I suppose. The others are hopefully recognizable! More on the way as I spiral into bead oblivion.
