Well, we’re sorry to say that we won’t be at Gamecore this spring as it’s been postponed till later this year. We’ll post updates on that when we learn more about the convention’s plans to reschedule.
Super Mario Bros. Piranha Plant Bead Sprite for Sale on Etsy
For sale at our Etsy Shop is a Piranha Plant Bead Sprite from Super Mario Bros. 3, complete with green “pipe”. This hungry guy is made from Perler beads and a painted terracotta pot. These will be available at our future convention art tables as well as through Etsy. They will be $15 at conventions, and you can save a buck by purchasing one online for $14. Check them out here!
Don’t have a green thumb? Not to worry! Take home one of these semi-harmless potted Piranha plants from Super Mario Bros! They are constructed with Perler Beads and have the same hungry-looking design on both sides. They come in their very own green “pipe” made from a terra cotta pot coated in acrylic paint. They are embedded in brown shredded paper and are removable from their pot, so you can “plant” them elsewhere if you like. When you want to put the Piranha back in its pot, simply remove the shredded paper, stick ‘im back in, and work the paper around the stick at the bottom of the sprite. Pack him in tightly and he’s ready to stand on his own roots again! These bead Piranhas don’t require any maintenance or water! Best of all- they don’t bite!
We made these Street Fighter bead sprites several months ago for 2009’s Gamecore Convention. Sadly only Ken sold. That priviledged jerk! *ahem* Well, in any event, we forgot to photograph him… Oops. But here for your viewing delite, we have Bison, Guile, Akuma, Chun-Li, Zangief, Dan, Ryu, and Sakura.
These sprites are from the Neo-Geo Pocket game SNK vs. Capcom: Match of the Millenium. The sprites in this game are monochromatic, so JJ and I recolored them to fit each character’s color scheme.
We will have these availabe at this year’s Castle Point Anime Convention, along with some characters from SNK & Darkstalkers. Stay tuned to see how they turned out!
Another con appearance confirmed for 2010! Geek Mythology Crafts will be appearing at this spring’s Game Core Convention. We will be sharing a booth with We’ve Got Freakin’ Video Games! The gaming convention has moved to the larger Valley Forge Convention Center venue and will span the weekend of April 30 – May 2! Hopefully video game craft lovers will come out in droves! We’ll be ready for you with tons of new bead sprites! We hope to see you there!
I discovered a brand new anime convention in the Philadelphia area! Inochicon is looking to kick off its first convention in late summer of next year, and we hope to be there! It’s always exciting to find anime conventions in the tri-state area. We love staying local.
While the location hasn’t been confirmed yet, we’ve expressed our interest in attending and in having an artist table at the con. We’ll keep you posted!
Chris from Video Masters TV graciously stopped by our table at Gamecore Con and interviewed us about our bead sprites! You can check out the episode here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rbu1qGPaTJ0 His segment about Gamecore is towards the end of the video. Many thanks, Chris!
I’ve decided to try something new on the blog- advertisement! We’ve got several items for sale on Etsy, but people might not know about them! So I’ll showcase them here and alert everyone to new items as they become available!
Check out our new bead sprite necklaces! We have several different kinds of smaller sprites laced up with ball-chain necklaces so you can wear them with pride! In stock at Etsy, we have Sonic the Hedgehog, Super Mario Bros. Mushrooms, and The Triforce from Legend of Zelda.
One of my favorite things about Dragonball Z- young Trunks and Goten. So when I saw this sprite of them fighting to the death (OK, not exactly), I knew that this image would become my bead spriting magnum opus. Unfortunately, at the time I hadn’t enough physical space to work on such a large sprite, nor did I have enough pegboards to lay it down on.
But now I finally do! So here is a work-in-progress shot of this project. Trunks is ALMOST finished. It’s taken a lot of color customizing to be able to work with this, since I couldn’t find a suitable color by Perler to make Trunks’ gi. And I’ll be darned if I could find the right purple combination for his hair. But being “crafty” with this, I think it will turn out great.
Well, we’ve been letting the blog collect dust for a little while now, so I decided to update the theme to a cleaner, simpler layout. I think the old layout worked when we didn’t have the main website ready, but it was pretty cluttered and actually pretty annoying to update. Now we’re going with a cut-and-dry (for the most part) style- hopefully it will be easier for readers to enjoy as well!
Well, we’ve been up to our armpits in “real life” so it’s been quiet on the Geek Mythology front. However, we’ve still been hard at work for our vendor table at Game Core in Oaks, PA tomorrow. After we get back we’ll try to get on the ball with a report and some photos! Maybe we’ll see you there! Have a great weekend!
